Former Chelsea defender, Filipe Luís has been sacked as manager of Flamengo just hours after his side thrashed Madureira 8-0 on Monday, March 2, 2026, to seal their place in the Campeonato Carioca final.

The emphatic victory completed an 11-0 aggregate win and kept Flamengo on course for a third consecutive state title, with rivals Fluminense FC waiting in Sunday’s final.

Despite the dominant performance, the club moved swiftly and announced his dismissal at 00:59 local time.

Luis, 40, had overseen a highly successful spell since replacing former Brazil coach Tite in September 2024.

He won seven trophies in 100 matches, averaging a title every 14 games, including the 2025 Copa Libertadores.

In doing so, he joined an exclusive list of figures to win South America’s premier club competition both as a player and a coach.

The club confirmed his departure in a brief statement: “Filipe Luis will no longer be in charge of the professional team. Ivan Palanco (assistant coach) and Diogo Linhares (physical trainer) are also leaving the club along with him.

“Flamengo thanks former player and coach Filipe Luis for everything that was achieved and shared during this journey. The club wishes him success and the best of luck in the continuation of his professional career,” the club said.
