FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated Cape Verde on their remarkable qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the nation’s first-ever appearance at football’s biggest global stage.

In a video posted on his official Instagram account, Infantino celebrated the Blue Sharks’ historic achievement and praised the nation’s tremendous progress in football development over the years.

“What a historic moment. Congratulations to everyone in Cape Verde for making the FIFA World Cup for the first time. Your flag will fly and your anthem will be heard at the greatest FIFA World Cup ever,” he said.

The Blue Sharks sealed qualification in emphatic style, defeating Eswatini 3-0 in their final Group D match on Monday. Goals from Dailon Livramento, Willy Semedo, and Stopira secured the famous win that sent the island nation to the World Cup for the very first time.

The FIFA President also commended the island nation’s investment and dedication to football growth, saying their qualification is a shining example of what determination and vision can achieve.

“Your work on football development in recent years has been incredible, and this is the moment your stars will become global and inspire a new generation of football lovers across Cape Verde. Congratulations,” he added.

Infantino also expressed excitement about seeing the Blue Sharks at the final tournament draw in Washington DC on December 5, where Cape Verde will learn their group-stage opponents.

“We can’t wait to see your opponents at the draw. See you soon. Warm regards,” the FIFA President concluded.

Cape Verde’s qualification marks a monumental moment for African football, showcasing how smaller nations can rise to the world stage through passion, unity, and belief.
