A Women’s Premier League match between Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC and FC Savannah Ladies GH ended in violent scenes on Sunday, January 18, 2026, after supporters invaded the pitch and attacked match officials and players at the Techiman Urban Park.

The Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League fixture was thrown into chaotic moments after the final whistle when tensions boiled over.

Reports and video footage from the venue showed angry fans storming the field, leading to confrontations involving referees, players, and spectators.

Referee Lovia Boadiwaa Duodo was reportedly assaulted during the chaos and sustained injuries as attempts were made to escort her to safety.

Players of FC Savannah Ladies GH were also targeted in the process which led to the injury of one player.

The incident has raised serious concerns about security arrangements at Women’s Premier League matches, particularly the safety of officials and players.

Despite the growing profile of the women’s game in Ghana, recurring issues surrounding poor crowd control and inadequate protection continue to threaten its progress.

The violent scenes from Techiman have triggered widespread condemnation from football stakeholders and fans, many of whom have renewed calls for better treatment, investment, and protection for football in the country.

The Ghana Football Association is expected to take up the matter, with calls for a thorough investigation into the incident and decisive sanctions against those found culpable.
