A female police officer was knocked down by a driver believed to be intoxicated on February 14, 2026, while directing traffic at Patasi in Kumasi.

An eyewitness reported that the driver, who appeared drunk, was recklessly operating a Toyota Corolla when he struck the officer. The vehicle reportedly somersaulted during the accident.

The extent of injuries sustained by the officer or others involved has not yet been disclosed.

Security personnel were on the scene, assisting the victims and providing treatment.

The eyewitness also noted that the same location had earlier witnessed another accident, where a vehicle caught fire after colliding with a stationary articulated truck.

He described the incident in Twi, saying, “This is the car. Today is Valentine’s Day. He went to intoxicate himself and has used his car to knock down a female police officer directing traffic on the road. It happened this evening. This articulator broke down and has been on the road, which another car rammed into and burnt. And now this accident too, the car has somersaulted.”

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities are appealing to drivers to exercise caution and avoid reckless driving, especially while under the influence of alcohol.
