    The Federal Government has revealed plans to tighten regulations on TikTok and other social media platforms, emphasizing the need for more skill-based and educational content.

    According to officials, the move is aimed at redirecting youth creativity towards productive digital engagement rather than the purely entertainment-driven content that currently dominates the platform.

    Government representatives said the proposed framework would encourage the use of TikTok and similar apps for skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, and digital learning, while discouraging content that adds little social or economic value.

    However, the announcement has sparked widespread debate across social media, with many Nigerians questioning the government’s priorities amid pressing economic and unemployment challenges.

    Critics argue that the administration should focus on job creation, youth empowerment, and internet access rather than imposing restrictions on online expression.

    Others support the idea, saying it could help guide young creators toward more productive use of social media.

    Below are some of the comments;

    “Instead of fixing unemployment or the economy, they want to ‘regulate’ TikTok. How about focusing on skill empowerment offline first before policing vibes online? Nigerians just want to create, not be controlled.“

    “That’s a good one… cause TikTok is now a begging app. And a view once app. In fact, you can’t meet any decent girl on TikTok again.”

    “When I see foreign content, they are educating, but once it’s Naija content, it’s total rubbish. Even oloshos inside the bush are doing content now to tell the world they are not ashamed of themselves.”

    The Federal Government has announced plans to tighten control over popular social media platform TikTok, aiming to regulate its content to focus more on skill development rather than purely entertainment.
