The throat of a Ghanaian football player, Nana Abraham, was slit during a match in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

According to multiple reports, Nana Abraham, a player of Barau Football Club, was attacked and left with a deep cut on his neck during a match against Katsina United.

A report by saharareporters.com indicated that the Ghanaian footballer was attacked by fans of Katsina United when chaos erupted during the NPFL match on Saturday.

It was stated in the report that the violence broke out moments after Barau Football Club scored a 69th-minute equaliser to make the game 1-1, which infuriated some supporters of Katsina United, the home team.

A post shared by Barau Football Club on X confirmed the incident but did not state the player’s condition.

“70′ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC,” the post, which had a picture of the Ghanaian player lying motionless, read.

Sahara Reporters indicated that videos of the incident it obtained show the player “bleeding from a visible neck wound, as officials and teammates struggled to control the chaos on the pitch.”

There have been contradictory reports about the player’s fate, with some reports indicating that he had died.

However, Nigerian journalist Israel Usulor has said that Nana Abraham did not die.

“A serious wound was inflicted on his neck. The attacked player, Nana Abraham, did not die, but his condition is not completely clear yet.

“The match was temporarily stopped as officials battled to bring the ugly situation under control. Another Barau FC player, Hillary Ekawu, replaced Nana Abraham, who was attacked. The match continued moments later and ended 1-1,” he wrote in a post shared on X.

The NPFL is yet to comment on the incident.
