Abdul Fatawu Issahaku delivered one of the moments of the Championship season with a stunning goal from inside his own half as Leicester City defeated high-flying Ipswich Town 3-1 at the King Power Stadium.

The Ghanaian winger spotted goalkeeper Christian Walton off his line and lofted an audacious left-footed effort from close to 65 metres, capping a fine performance and helping Leicester secure only their second home league win since August.

Leicester entered the match under pressure after winning just four of their previous 16 games, but they made a strong start. Bobby De Cordova-Reid put the hosts ahead after eight minutes with a superb 30-yard strike, his third goal in as many matches. Ipswich nearly equalised when Jack Clarke fired straight at Jakub Stolarczyk, and Fatawu forced a save from a free kick before producing his extraordinary long-range goal two minutes before half-time.

Marti Cifuentes’ side had squandered a two-goal lead in midweek against Bristol City, but there was no repeat as they extended their advantage early in the second half. Defensive hesitation from Ipswich allowed Ricardo Pereira to square for Jordan Ayew, who tapped home his fourth league goal of the campaign.

Jens Cajuste pulled one back for the visitors in the 71st minute after pouncing on a misplaced goal kick, but Leicester remained composed to see out the match. The victory moves the Foxes up to eighth place, three points off the play-off positions, while Ipswich stay fifth after only their second defeat in 11 league games.
