A Ghanaian agribusiness company, Farmer Globale, has earned international recognition at the Africa Sustainable Futures Awards, hosted by the Financial Times in partnership with the World Bank Group’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) in the United Kingdom on October 21 and 22, 2026.
The recognition highlights the company’s efforts to transform Ghana’s rice sector through climate-smart farming, support for smallholder farmers and the development of carbon finance opportunities.
Farmer Globale is promoting a rice production model that combines environmentally sustainable practices with practical support to help farmers improve productivity, access markets and increase their incomes.
At the centre of its approach is Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), a water-management technique that reduces water consumption and methane emissions from rice cultivation.
The company combines the technology with input financing, mechanisation, agricultural extension services, aggregation, processing and market access to help farmers adopt more sustainable production methods while remaining commercially competitive.

Working with more than 20,000 farmers, Farmer Globale is seeking to demonstrate how climate action can support rural livelihoods, strengthen food security and create new investment opportunities in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The company is also developing opportunities for farmers to benefit from carbon credits generated through climate-smart agricultural practices, potentially creating an additional source of income while reducing the environmental impact of rice production.
The initiative comes amid growing efforts to make agriculture more resilient to climate change while improving the competitiveness of locally produced food.

For the Managing Partner of Farmer Globale, Fred Kukubor, the international recognition reinforces the company’s commitment to ensuring smallholder farmers benefit directly from the shift towards more sustainable food production.
“This recognition reinforces our conviction that agriculture can be both commercially viable and a powerful force for climate action and inclusive development. Our ambition is to ensure that farmers are not merely participants in the transition to sustainable agriculture, but among its greatest beneficiaries,” the company said.
Farmer Globale says it will continue to expand practical agricultural innovations, strengthen market opportunities and attract investment to deliver measurable benefits for farmers, rural communities and the environment.

Its approach seeks to connect sustainable farming practices with stronger value chains, giving smallholder farmers greater opportunities to participate in and benefit from the changing agricultural economy.
