Two family heads from Asemko in the Ahanta Traditional Area have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama and several key state institutions to intervene in recent disturbances that have left parts of the community in ruins and one person dead.

The petition, jointly signed by Mr. Peter Essien, Ebusuapanyin of the Ntwea Royal Family, and Mr. Philip Paintsil, Stool Head of Asemko, stated that the incident led to the destruction of property, burning of homes, and the displacement of many residents.

According to the petition, nearly 80 per cent of the community was affected, including houses and fishing canoes along the coastline.

The violent clashes also resulted in the death of one person, identified as John Abban, while several others sustained injuries and were receiving medical treatment.

The petitioners said the incident had left the once-peaceful fishing community in a state of fear and uncertainty, with residents relocating to nearby towns for safety.

They appealed for urgent government intervention to restore calm and provide relief to those affected.

The petitioners also requested an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disturbances to ensure that justice is served and lasting peace is restored to the area.

Copies of the petition have been submitted to the President, the Chief of Staff, Attorney-General, Inspector-General of Police, Chief Justice, Minister of Defence, Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau, and the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Other recipients included the Western Regional Minister, Ahanta West Municipal Chief Executive, Western Regional House of Chiefs, and the Ghana Police Council.

The petitioners expressed confidence that the timely intervention of government and the relevant authorities would help rebuild the community, protect lives and property, and prevent similar incidents in the future.
