The Eze-Igbo Palace, on behalf Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, has commenced a civil defamation lawsuit against five individuals and a media organization. The suit, filed at the High Court of Justice in Accra, seeks redress for a series of malicious and defamatory statements made against the revered traditional ruler on a social media–streamed television programme.

The defendants named in the suit are Mehmet Kayhan, Bahattin Akbaba, Frank Adjei, Kwaku Annan, and Class Media Group. The action follows broadcasts of The Frontline show on July 21, August 4, and August 13, 2025, during which Eze Ihenetu was allegedly described as an “impostor, fraudster, liar, crook, and ragamuffin.” The online promotion of the show further alleged that Eze defrauded a business partner of one of the defendants.

The Palace firmly rejects these claims as false, malicious, and without merit. The relationship in question, it clarifies, was strictly business-based, governed by a formal agreement with clear terms and conditions. The allegations that Eze Ihenetu exploited his traditional office for fraudulent gain are deliberate falsehoods designed to damage his reputation and incite public hostility.

Eze Ihenetu has consistently dedicated his life to promoting peace, unity, and community development across Ghana and Nigeria. His leadership and humanitarian efforts have earned him more than 60 honorary awards, underscoring his contribution to the Igbo community and his host nation. This legal action, the Palace emphasises, is essential to safeguard the dignity of the Igbo traditional stool in Ghana and to send a strong message against the misuse of media platforms for defamation.

The lawsuit seeks, among other remedies:

    • A declaration that the defendants’ statements are defamatory.

    • Aggravated and exemplary damages.

    • A public retraction and unqualified apology.

    • Permanent removal of all defamatory content.

    • A perpetual injunction restraining future defamatory publications.

The Eze-Igbo Palace reaffirms its commitment to due process and the rule of law, urging the public to disregard the fabricated allegations and allow the courts to adjudicate the matter.
