President John Dramani Mahama has approved a two-year contract extension for Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, allowing him to remain in office beyond his statutory retirement in December 2025.

The decision, which takes effect from December 28, 2025, was made following a recommendation by the Police Council.

In response to the announcement, GhanaWeb TV engaged with some members of the public to gather their views on the development.

President Mahama extends IGP Yohuno’s tenure by 2 years

While many citizens praised the extension, describing it as a move that ensures continuity and stability within the Ghana Police Service, others argued that the IGP should have been allowed to retire to create space for other senior officers to rise.
