Former Hearts of Oak midfielder, Daniel Coleman has shed light on the often overlooked struggles facing retired Ghana Premier League (GPL) footballers living abroad.

According to Daniel Coleman, life in the United Kingdom is far from the glamorous picture many in Ghana imagine.

Speaking during an interview on Angel FM, Coleman disclosed that several former GPL players who relocate to the UK in search of better opportunities are confronted with harsh financial and social realities.

The situation, he noted, has forced many to abandon their football dreams entirely and take up menial jobs such as cleaning, warehouse work, and other forms of manual labour just to pay rent and feed their families.

He stressed that the perception in Ghana that footballers abroad are automatically living comfortable lives is misleading.

“Life abroad isn’t as easy as people see from Ghana,” Coleman echoed .

The former Hearts of Oak player also highlighted the difficulty some ex-GPL stars face in adapting to new systems and lifestyles, particularly in countries like the UK, the United States, and Canada.

He explained that the cultural shift, demanding work environments, and lack of familiar support structures often leave former players overwhelmed.

“People will not see all this,” Coleman noted, suggesting that the true lives of many former footballers remain hidden behind social media images and assumptions.
