Former Asante Kotoko captain, Isaac Amoako, has joined the growing chorus of condemnation against hooliganism in Ghanaian football following the tragic death of Yaw Frimpong, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, during their match against Nsoatreman on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Deeply concerned about the rising incidents of violence in Ghanaian football, Amoako urged fans to abandon such behaviors and learn from past tragedies.

Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, he emphasised the negative impact of hooliganism on the sport.

“No one enjoys investing in a product that promotes hooliganism. Nobody wants to be associated with such behavior.

“As Ghanaians and a football-loving nation, we must learn from past events. We have come of age, and these acts of violence must stop. What happened started with the players and escalated to the supporters, ultimately leading to the tragic death of this young fan,” he said.

In response to the incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended the use of Nana Konamansah Park by Nsoatreman, charged both Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman with violating Section 12(1)(j) of the 2019 GFA Disciplinary Code, and temporarily halted the league while investigations continue.
