Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has weighed in on whether foreign-born Ghanaian players should be invited to join the Black Stars for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, being born outside the territories of Ghana shouldn’t stop a player with Ghanaian descent from playing for the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The comment of the former Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio constituency comes on the back of reports that Eddie Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Francis Amuzu and others who previously rejected Ghana are now ready to play after the Black Stars’ qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye in an interview with Channel One TV said even Andre Dede Ayew and his junior brother Jordan Ayew were not born in Ghana yet they play for the Black Stars.

He maintained that the door should be opened for every player who is willing to play for the Black Stars to come on board.

“Even Jordan and Dede weren’t born here, even though their father played for Ghana. They were born outside the country yet they’ve served Ghana well,” Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye said.
