The University of Ghana’s 2024/2025 Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President and artiste Guru has addressed claims that the winner of the Miss UG 2025 pageant received a car in poor condition.

In a video circulating on social media, the “Lapaz Toyota” hitmaker responded to the pageant queen’s allegation that the vehicle is about 90 years old.

He suggested that she visit Manhyia Palace, noting that there are cars over 100 years old still being driven.

The rapper and former SRC President also questioned how many cars in Ghana are genuinely new, adding that what mattered was that the car could start and was operable when presented.

Miss UG winner alleges mismanagement under Guru’s administration

“You say the car is old, that it’s 90 years old, but go to Manhyia Palace and you’ll see cars that are even 100 years old and still driven. You said, ‘The car is not new, you promised me a brand-new car but gave me an old one,’ yet the car had ignition when it was handed over to you,” Guru said.

The controversy began when Mariam Jasmine Saaka, crowned Miss University of Ghana 2025 in August, spoke out about the disappointing condition of the prize vehicle.

In a social media video, she showcased the black Toyota Vitz, describing it as riddled with mechanical issues and far from the “brand-new” condition promised.

According to Jasmine, the car was immobile, forcing her to leave it abandoned at the campus car park. She showed further problems with the interior, including loose and detachable panels, a broken glove compartment, and missing grab handles, issues she emphasised are unacceptable for a brand-new vehicle.
