Esme Mends, Club Licensing Manager of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has raised concerns over the infrastructural and financial challenges affecting the growth of the Ghana Premier League.
Speaking on the GFA Podcast, Mends described facility ownership among top-flight clubs as a major obstacle to development. He revealed that out of the 18 clubs competing in the league, only seven own training facilities, while just four have their own stadia.
According to Mends, Medeama SC, Bibiani GoldStars, Nations FC, and Hohoe United are the only clubs with dedicated home grounds.
He emphasised that financial limitations remain a key issue, impacting clubs’ ability to invest in infrastructure and sustain operations. The absence of privately owned venues often forces teams to rely on rented state or community facilities, increasing costs and creating logistical challenges.
The situation comes at a crucial stage of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, with Medeama SC currently leading the standings on 46 points. Defending champions Bibiani GoldStars sit close behind, just one point adrift, as the title race intensifies with nine matches remaining.
