Black Stars winger Ernest Nuamah has undergone successful surgery after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The Ghanaian is now set to begin a long spell on the sidelines as he focuses on recovery ahead of next season. He is expected to be out for three to six months.

The 21-year-old sustained the injury during Olympique Lyon’s 2-1 win over Lille on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

He was forced off just seven minutes into the game and was replaced by Rayan Cherki.

The injury is a major setback for Nuamah, who had recently cemented his place in Lyon’s starting lineup following an impressive run of form over the past three months.

This marks the first major injury of his young career and makes him the fifth Ghanaian footballer to suffer an ACL injury this season.

The former Nordsjaelland man will miss Ghana’s Unity Cup tournament in May 2025, but he is expected to be back for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September.
