Ghana international Ernest Nuamah is set to spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines after suffering a devastating cruciate ligament rupture during Olympique Lyon’s Ligue 1 clash against Lille on Saturday.

The injury, which occurred in just the fifth minute of the game, followed a ground duel with Lille defender Gabriel Gudmundsson.

Unfortunately, Nuamah came off worse in the challenge and had to be substituted early, with Ryan Cherki taking his place.

Lyon eventually triumphed 2-1, but the victory was overshadowed by the worrying setback to their talented winger.

Initial assessments suggest Nuamah could be out for six to twelve months, depending on the severity of the tear and how his body responds to treatment and rehabilitation.

A partial tear may heal with conservative therapy within 6 to 9 months, while a complete rupture requiring surgery and extensive rehab could stretch the recovery to at least a year.

In some cases, full recovery can take up to two years, particularly if complications arise.

The injury is a huge blow not only to Lyon’s campaign but also to Ghana’s national team, which values Nuamah’s pace, creativity, and work ethic.

As he begins his long road to recovery, the football community in Ghana and beyond will be rallying behind the 21-year-old star, hoping for a full and successful comeback.
