In a heartbreaking turn of events, Ghanaian football has been plunged into mourning after popular Asante Kotoko supporter, , Eric “Pooley” Nkansah was stabbed to death following a Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko in Nsoatre on Saturday. The incident, which occurred shortly after the game ended in a 1-1 draw, has sparked outrage and calls for justice across the country.
According to eyewitnesses, chaos erupted near the Nsoatreman Park as rival fans clashed over alleged provocations during the heated encounter. Pooley, a well-known figure in Kotoko’s vibrant fanbase, was reportedly attacked by unidentified assailants and sustained fatal stab wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. Police have launched a manhunt for suspects, with regional authorities urging calm as tensions simmer.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and both clubs have condemned the violence, describing Pooley’s death as a “dark stain” on the sport. Kotoko fans, devastated by the loss, flooded social media with tributes, calling him a “true warrior” whose passion for the Porcupine Warriors was unmatched.
Nsoatreman FC released a statement expressing solidarity with Pooley’s family, while local chiefs and community leaders called for an end to hooliganism. “Football is unity, not bloodshed,” one fan lamented on Twitter.
As investigations continue, Ghana’s sports community is left grappling with a painful question: When will fan violence end? For now, Pooley’s tragic death serves as a grim reminder of the need for stricter safety measures at matches. Rest well, soldier ⚫🔴.
