The Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer, has announced a landmark breakthrough in Ghana’s fight against sophisticated financial crime.

He revealed that EOCO has secured one of West Africa’s few licenses for forensic cryptocurrency investigations and has already used it to recover proceeds from crypto fraud.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, during the official launch of the QNET-EOCO partnership to combat organised crime, Archer outlined the agency’s expanded capacity to tackle modern, tech-driven crimes and ensure that criminals are denied the profits of their illegal operations.

“This is to detect, this is to investigate, this is to prosecute and not just prosecute, but also to deny the perpetrators the proceeds of their crime,” Archer stated.

He acknowledged the growing use of new technologies by criminals to conceal stolen funds but confirmed EOCO’s significant advancement in securing one of the few licenses in West Africa for forensic crypto investigations.

“We are happy to announce that EOCO now holds one of the few licenses in West Africa for forensic crypto investigations,” he added.

In a historic development for the continent, Archer revealed that Ghana’s organised crime office has already begun putting its new capabilities to use.

“We have actually, for the first time in Africa, successfully investigated, confiscated, and are about to return the proceeds of crypto fraud to the country,” he declared.
