Several prominent figures from Ghana’s entertainment industry gathered at Independence Square on Saturday August 30, 2025, to mark the one-week observation of the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

The creative industry, from musicians and filmmakers to DJs and content creators, turned out in their numbers to honour the iconic musician.

Among the many musicians present were industry greats such as Amakye Dede, Kojo Antwi, Pat Thomas, Kofi Nti, Oheneba Kissi, and Kwabena Kwabena.

Gospel musicians, including Diana Asamoah, Obaapa Christy, Brother Sammy, the Tagoe Sisters, and Jack Alolome, were also in attendance, alongside younger stars like Gyakie and Kay Blez.

On the day, some of these musicians took turns performing, creating an emotional atmosphere as they rendered classics in memory of the late legend.

Obaapa Christy, Pat Thomas, Kofi Nti, Brother Sammy, and Nana Adomako were among those who mounted the stage to perform.

The Ghanaian movie industry was represented by Emelia Brobbey and comic actor Salinko.

DJs and media personalities such as DJ Mensah, Serwaa Amihere, and Andy Dosty were also present, with Andy Dosty energising the gathering from behind the turntables.

At one point, the crowd erupted in excitement when he played Daddy Lumba’s “Nana Ye Winner” to welcome former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

While the entertainment industry formed the backbone of the gathering, the ceremony also drew figures from the political space.

Former President Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong were all in attendance.

Representatives of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change and the Minority Caucus of Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, also joined the ceremony.

The Odikro Band performed some of Lumba’s timeless songs, while fan associations dedicated to the legend, including the Fantasy Club of Daddy Lumba, House of Daddy Lumba Fan Club, and Great Fans of Daddy Lumba, turned out in full force.

The family announced that the final funeral rites of Daddy Lumba will take place in Kumasi, though the exact date of burial has not yet been revealed.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra.
