Engr Boateng has urged engineers to move beyond their traditional professional roles Engr Boateng has urged engineers to move beyond their traditional professional roles

The Immediate Past President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH), Engr Henry Kwadwo Boateng, has called on engineers across the country to actively participate in politics and governance to help shape Ghana’s development agenda.

He made the appeal in Wa during the induction of a new batch of IET-GH members, stressing that engineers possess critical technical expertise needed for effective policymaking and sustainable national progress.

Addressing the gathering, Engr Boateng urged engineers to move beyond their traditional professional roles and take up leadership positions in public life.

According to him, “the absence of engineers in key decision-making spaces often results in policies and projects that lack sound technical grounding.”

The Wa induction ceremony also marked Engr Boateng’s final official event as President of IET-GH, bringing his tenure to a close with a strong message on civic responsibility and national service.

He noted that professional bodies such as IET-GH can exert greater influence on government policies when their members are actively involved in politics and public administration.

Engr Boateng further encouraged the newly inducted members to cultivate an interest in national affairs, reminding them of the significant role engineers have historically played in Ghana’s infrastructure and socio-economic development.

He concluded by emphasising that engineering goes beyond providing technical solutions, noting that the profession also demands responsible leadership, public service, and a commitment to national development.
