The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has held a high-level performance retreat under the auspices of Dr John Jinapor, bringing together the leadership of its agencies to review sector performance in 2025 and chart a strategic course for 2026.

The retreat served as a critical platform for frank reflection on achievements and challenges within Ghana’s energy sector, while aligning stakeholders around clear, actionable priorities aimed at delivering tangible results for the Ghanaian people.

Speaking at the retreat, Dr Jinapor noted that when he assumed office in January 2025, the energy sector was grappling with serious difficulties across both the power and petroleum sub-sectors.

He, however, expressed optimism about the progress made over the past year.

According to him, the sector has recorded sustained power stability, with no recent episodes of load shedding, alongside a renewed restoration of investor confidence in the upstream petroleum sector.

He attributed these gains largely to improved collaboration and coordination among sector institutions.

Looking ahead to 2026, Dr Jinapor outlined clear priorities for the Ministry and its agencies.

These include ensuring stable, reliable, and affordable electricity, strengthening transmission and distribution infrastructure, and expanding generation capacity to meet Ghana’s growing energy demand.

He also underscored the importance of accelerating renewable energy deployment as part of the country’s green transition agenda.

In the petroleum sub-sector, Dr Jinapor highlighted plans to revitalise upstream petroleum activities and drive the revamp of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company.

He said these initiatives are critical to enhancing energy security, boosting domestic value addition, and creating sustainable jobs.

The energy minister stressed the need for accountability, performance, and results-driven leadership, urging sector agencies to remain focused on building a resilient, sustainable, and forward-looking energy sector that supports Ghana’s broader development objectives.
