The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has held a strategic meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) at the Ministry’s headquarters to discuss challenges confronting the electrical contracting industry and explore collaborative solutions for long-term improvement.

During the engagement, GECA proposed that the government adopt a policy mandating only certified electrical contractors to undertake electrical works on construction projects.

The Association emphasised that such a move would enhance safety, reliability, and compliance with professional standards, while reducing the incidence of electrical fires and accidents linked to poor wiring and substandard materials.

Jinapor commended GECA for the initiative and announced that he had tasked a technical team within the Ministry to develop a comprehensive roadmap addressing the issues raised by the Association.

He noted that a well-implemented policy framework could “save lives and protect property” across the country.

The minister further assured stakeholders that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the Energy Commission, and GECA to strengthen regulations and raise professional standards within the sector.

“I want to thank the leadership of GECA for their recognition and commitment,” Jinapor stated. “Together, we can build a safer and more efficient electrical industry for all.”
