- Man climbed onto Broadway Shopping Centre roof
- Unfolded in front of lunchtime shoppers and families
A major police operation is underway at a busy Sydney shopping centre after a man reportedly threatened to jump from the top level.
Emergency services were called to Broadway Shopping Centre about 1pm Monday following reports a man had climbed onto the roof.
The centre was packed with lunchtime shoppers and young families at the time.
‘I saw two cops walking quickly up to the top floor,’ a shocked father told Daily Mail.
‘All these people were gathered around looking looking up at the roof, some people filming.
‘I asked a lady what was going on and she said a man was up the top, threatening to jump.’
Security staff cordoned off a large section of the ground floor near Coles.
‘I saw Police Rescue bring a long ladder inside the shopping centre and up the escalators,’ the father added.
It is understood the incident was mental health-related and has since been resolved.
More to come.
