The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mrs Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has called on the public to embrace the soon-to-be- introduced Regional Sanitation Day to make it a success

She reiterated her commitment to improving the sanitation situation in the capital for a cleaner environment essential for the wellbeing of the citizenry.

The Minister, who disclosed this during her first working visit to the Korle Klottey (KoKMA) Municipal Assembly in Accra yesterday, said she would strictly implement the regional Sanitation Day initiative in order to help rid the city of filth.

The Regional urged the Municipal Assemblies in the capital to strengthen their waste management strategies and enhance community engagement on sanitation issues.

She further urged the assemblies to enforce sanitations regulations and byelaws to maintain a hygienic environment.

“I urge you to embrace the regional sanitation day to make it a success, sanitation issues would be prioritised under my tenure as Regional Minister.”

She reiterated her commitment to the provision and maintenance of streetlights in the country saying they were crucial for security and urban development.

“Ensuring that our streets are well-lit not only enhances safety but also contributes to economic activity by extending business hours in key commercial areas,” she added.

Mrs Ocloo’s visit marked the beginning of her engagements with all 29 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region, to familiarise herself with their activities and progress, towards understanding the development strides made in the municipality, ultimately informing her future direction.

Furthermore, Mrs Ocloo was committed to championing the agenda of the President of resetting the nation by pledging support to the efforts of all municipal assemblies, including Korle Klottey, to enhance service delivery and improve the quality of life.

She further called on all the management’s support to make her vision and that of the assembly’s a reality.

The Municipal Environmental Health Analyst, Mr Victor Acquaye, said the assembly had launched a comprehensive programme to address the challenges faced by households, communities, and the environment

The initiative, Mr Acquaye stated, focused on both household and community levels to promote a culture of proper waste disposal and sanitation.

To achieve this, he stated that the district partnered with Jekora Ventures to provide public services, including waste collection and disposal as well as ensuring that waste is properly disposed of.

Speaking on the status of streetlights and maintenance plan, the Head of Works, Mr Isaac Lamptey also indicated that the management had put measures in place to ensure that the streets were well-lit.

The Chief Director of GARCC, Mrs Lilian Baeka, in a statement admonished the staff of the district to be punctual to work.

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Emmanuel Baisie, in an address congratulated Ms Ocloo on her achievement and welcomed her to the municipality.

Mr Baisie expressing gratitude to the minister for choosing KoKMA as the first place of visit, and pledged the support of management and staff to ensure a smooth and effective administration.

In attendance were staff and members of the various Assemblies, including the Assembly member of Ring-Way Estate, the Presiding Member of KoKMA, Abdul Maikano Mumuni, and the Assembly Member of Asylum Down, Ms Ernestina Osei-Bonsu.
