A building at ‘London Bridge’, a densely populated area in the heart of Cape Coast, has collapsed following hours of torrential rainfall.
An elderly woman was confirmed dead after her body was retrieved from the rubble.
The building, believed to have been constructed many years ago, gave way during the downpour, raising concerns about the structural integrity of aged buildings in the area.
In a video shared on X on June 21, 2025, rescue operations are underway as personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the National Ambulance Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) continue to comb through the debris in search of survivors feared trapped beneath the rubble. The Cape Coast
Metropolitan Assembly is yet to release an official statement, but local officials are urging residents in similar structures to seek safer shelter as the rains continue.
