    Debido a la trágica muerte del boxeador Ernest Oko Akushey “Bahubali”, la Autoridad Nacional de Deportes (NSA) suspendió todas las actividades de boxeo en el país con efecto inmediato después de una extensa reunión con las autoridades del país, incluido el Ministerio de Deportes y Recreación.

    “Bahubali”, de 32 años, falleció el 23 de septiembre después de su pelea de peso súper mediano, que perdió por nocaut técnico en ocho asaltos ante Jacob Dickson el pasado viernes 12 de septiembre, en el Bukom Boxing Arena.

    No hay información formal sobre la causa de la muerte de Akushey, pero hay fuertes indicios de que podría haberse debido a los golpes que recibió en el ring durante su derrota ante Dickson.

    El comunicado de la NSA afirma que la decisión de suspender todas las actividades de boxeo se basa en un compromiso conjunto con el Ministerio de Deportes para proteger la salud y el bienestar de los atletas.

    La NSA y el Ministerio de Deportes han estado trabajando para implementar un plan integral para crear un Comité que gestione todos los asuntos relacionados con el deporte, y han adoptado las recomendaciones del Comité Ministerial de Boxeo con reformas que se espera fortalezcan los procedimientos médicos, técnicos y regulatorios
