A group of branch executives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region has openly rejected the nomination of Rev. Atta Mensah as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), calling the decision unjust and detrimental to party unity.

At a press conference held to voice their concerns, the group, comprising 150 branch executives, described the appointment of Rev. Atta Mensah as unfair, particularly following the rejection of the party’s Constituency Secretary, Abraham Henry Arthur, who was initially nominated by the President but failed to secure confirmation from Assembly Members.

Frimpong Manso, Youth Organiser for the Ansaful Branch and leader of the protest, acknowledged Rev. Atta Mensah’s loyalty to the party but questioned his impact compared to Henry Arthur.

“While we respect Rev. Atta Mensah’s membership in the NDC, his contributions cannot be compared to those of Abraham Henry Arthur, who has sacrificed immensely for the party,” Manso said.

The group is demanding the re-nomination of Henry Arthur and the full utilization of the constitutionally mandated three attempts at confirmation.

They believe bypassing this process undermines the democratic principles of the party and risks creating disunity at the grassroots level.

They have called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and reverse the nomination.

According to them, allowing the current nomination to stand could fracture the party’s support base in the Effutu Constituency.

Henry Arthur previously received only nine votes in favor and 17 against during the confirmation process, which was marked by heightened tensions and disorder.
