The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) is deepening collaborations with key stakeholders to address the challenges facing sports development in the country.

In a recent engagement, the leadership of SWAG, led by President Kwabena Yeboah, met with Kwamina Asomaning, President of the Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB) who doubles as Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana, to discuss potential partnerships aimed at boosting sports in Ghana.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for SWAG to acknowledge the contributions of various institutions toward the growth of sports and to seek further commitments to talent development and grassroots initiatives.

Kwamina Asomaning emphasized the vital role of sports in national unity and economic development, stating that collective efforts are needed to harness the full potential of Ghanaian athletes.

He highlighted plans to expand support beyond professional sports by investing in school-level competitions, recognizing the significance of early talent identification and development.

The SWAG delegation, which included key executives such as Secretary General Charles Osei Asibey, Deputy Secretary General Kenneth Odeng Adade, Women’s Commissioner Mavis Amanor, and Executive Committee member Ohene Bampoe Brenya, commended ongoing efforts to promote local sporting disciplines.

They stressed the importance of sustained investment in various sports, including table tennis, swimming, and cycling, to enable Ghanaian athletes to compete at both national and international levels.

Discussions also touched on past strategic investments in Ghanaian sports, such as support for major events like the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations and the recently concluded African Games. Stakeholders expressed optimism that strengthened partnerships will lead to long-term growth and a more vibrant sporting industry in the country.

The engagement underscores a renewed commitment to sports development, with institutions and stakeholders pledging to work together to restore Ghana’s prominence on the global sporting stage.
