The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Edward Bawa, has met with the team leading the historic hosting of the Africa Oil Week 2025, which is coming to Accra for the first time.

The September 2025 event is making its first stop in Ghana after many years of being hosted in South Africa.

The AOW is the premier deal-making and investment platform for the African upstream sector, bringing together governments, NOCs, IOCs, independents, and investors to unlock opportunities across the continent.

As the momentum for the event builds up, Edward Bawa, in a pivotal bilateral meeting with Paul Sinclair, CEO of Africa Oil Week (AOW), discussed the significant opportunities that AOW will bring to Ghana’s upstream sector.

This is significant with Ghana’s newly-formed government that is focused on progressive energy policies and regulatory frameworks, preparing to unveil an exciting roadmap designed to attract investment, drive exploration, and enhance competitiveness in the regional energy landscape.

Speaking at the meeting, Edward Bawa reaffirmed that GNPC will be at the forefront of these efforts, ensuring Ghana emerges as a key player in Africa’s energy transformation.

Speaking on Ghana’s role in this landmark event, Edward Bawa stated; “GNPC will leave no stone unturned to ensure a warm welcome to all NOC CEOs for the 7th APPO NOC CEO Meeting. AOW 2025 will be the premier platform where deals are struck between the global private sector, Pan-African regulators, and National Oil Companies.

“Hosting regional leadership in Ghana at AOW will be an honor, and we fully expect a full turnout of major NOCs and policymakers who will be presenting licensing rounds and open acreage opportunities.”

Adding to the anticipation, Edward Bawa will assume the presidency of the NOC CEO Forum, which will be held on the margins of AOW 2025, in collaboration with the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO).

This high-profile gathering will convene National Oil Company (NOC) CEOs from across Africa, alongside global investors and regulators, to forge new partnerships and investment strategies.

AOW 2025: The Global Meeting Point for African Energy Leaders

With commitments already secured from leading operators, AOW 2025 is set to be the definitive platform for upstream investment in Africa.

The event will bring together government leaders, regulators, and private sector players, offering unparalleled opportunities for networking, deal-making, and investment promotion.

Paul Sinclair, CEO of AOW, expressed his enthusiasm for Ghana’s leadership in shaping the future of African energy.

“We are excited to bring AOW to Ghana at a time when the nation is setting bold new policies to accelerate upstream growth. With the support of APPO and GNPC, AOW 2025 will serve as a critical forum for industry leaders to engage, collaborate, and drive investment into Africa’s oil and gas sector. We look forward to welcoming our community to Accra and making this a key platform on the global energy calendar,” he said.
