The Western Regional Office of the National Security has uncovered a large stockpile of electrical materials during a surprise operation at Kansawurodo, a suburb of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

Acting on a tip-off, security operatives raided an uncompleted building and hidden storage site, where they discovered several items suspected to belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Items seized from the location included:

    46 cable drums

    Electrical switches

    Meters and meter cases

    Iron angle bars

    Other essential ECG-related equipment

Speaking to Channel One News on Monday, April 7, Hashim Torkonu, the National Security operative who led the operation, stated that the condition and placement of the items raised serious suspicions that they may be part of the missing ECG containers currently under investigation.

“The stocks here are different from the ones uncovered at the private residence earlier. That one was owned by a contractor. But his explanation and the actual items didn’t match. We are still investigating,” Torkonu explained.

He added that the Regional Security Coordinator was expected to contact headquarters in Accra for further directives, as no individual had yet claimed ownership of the newly discovered materials. Local residents reportedly did not know who the materials belonged to.

Two suspects have so far been picked up for questioning. Among them is Evans Lartey, who claimed to be a certified ECG contractor.

“I am a meter supplier. When ECG needs meters, they reach out to registered suppliers like myself,” Lartey said, maintaining that he holds a valid contract with ECG.

The discovery is the latest development in the ongoing probe into ECG’s missing containers scandal, as authorities ramp up efforts to track down lost equipment and bring those responsible to justice.
