The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah, is not happy about the recent development in Ghana’s electoral process ahead of the 2024 elections.

However, he is glad the Electoral Commission has done the right thing by informing all political parties of their decision to recall the ballot papers for the Western and Eastern regions.

In a post shared via social media, Dr. Omane Boamah indicated that “The Electoral Commission did well by disclosing the news, unlike in the case of the stolen Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits”.

    His post read:

Fresh Details From Today’s Emergency IPAC Meeting

    1. No Special Voting in the Eastern and Western regions tomorrow.

    2. Their special voting will take place on Thursday.

    3. A ballot paper from the Eastern region has been found in the wrong hands (stolen).

    4. The same company, Checkpoint, printed ballot papers for Eastern and Western regions.

    5. State Security is tight-lipped and has refused to name the culprit(s).

    6. Reprinting will commence in 3 different print houses.

    7. The Electoral Commission did well by disclosing the news, unlike in the case of the stolen Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits”.

Meanwhile, the EC has announced that special voting in the Western and Eastern regions will take place on Thursday, December 5.

The decision to change the date is a result of the leakage of the ballot papers for those regions.

The EC says three printing houses have been engaged to reprint the ballot papers for the two regions after the first one printed by Checkpoint got into the wrong hands.
