A total of 5,085 voters are expected to partake in the special voting exercise in 17 polling centers in the Western Region today.

The voters include journalists, security personnel and staff who would supervise the general elections.

At Jomoro, voting will take place at the Municipal Assembly Hall, Ellembelle, the Police Station, Evalue Gwira, District Magistrate Court, Ahanta West, Municipal Assembly hall, Takoradi, Takoradi Library, Sekondi, Methodist School, Essikado, Brigade Hall and Effia, Catholic Parish Hall.

The rest are Kwesimintsim, St Padua Catholic Church Hall, Shama, the Fort 1, Wassa East, Information Centre, Mpohor, Police Station, Tarkwa- Nsuaem, EC office, Prestea- Huni Valley, EC office, Wassa Amenfi, Methodist Church, Akropong, Amenfi Central, Post office and Wassa Amenfi West, District Police Station.

The Special Voting exercise for the Eastern and Western regions, postponed by the Electoral Commission (EC), is scheduled to take place today, December 5, 2024, at designated polling stations.

The rescheduling followed a recall and reprinting of ballot papers due to an incident involving a defaced ballot paper for the Eastern Region, which was earmarked for destruction but found outside the Checkpoint Limited Printing House and the discovery prompted the EC, in consultation with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), to reprint the ballots to maintain the integrity of the process.

On Tuesday, December 3, over 3.6 million compromised ballot papers were destroyed under strict security at a Koforidua dumping site and representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) monitored the destruction to ensure transparency.

Speaking to The Ghanaian Times, the Electoral Commissioner, Mr John Appiah, confirmed the successful burning of the recalled ballots and announced that new ballot papers have been distributed to the 33 municipalities and district assemblies for the upcoming elections slated for December 7, 2024.

He assured that all materials, including ballot boxes and reprinted papers, are ready for the electoral process to proceed smoothly today and reiterated its commitment to ensuring a credible and transparent voting process, emphasizing the importance of today’s exercise in upholding public confidence in the electoral system.
