Actress cum politician Ebi Bright has talked about why she chose to keep her marriage and family away from the public eye.

Speaking at the Youth Development Summit organized by the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) in Tema, under the theme “Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Today through Education, Entrepreneurship and Work,” she advised young women to be intentional about the kind of lives they want to lead.

Ebi Bright confirmed as Tema’s first female mayor

According to her, every woman must decide early whether they want to pursue family life, focus on their intellect, or enjoy social popularity.

She challenged the audience to look back on their goals and the sacrifices they are willing to make.

Tema needs reset, and it will happen – Mayor Ebi Bright

“Each one of us knows who we are, before we get to where everybody else knows us. You have to decide early on, are you a slay queen? Or you’re going to be leading the space with your mind and with thoughts. Do you want a family and do you want to be a responsible homemaker? Or do you just want to be out there? What price is too big for what you want?” she asked.

Ebi Bright explained that for her, marriage and family have always been a priority. Because of that, she was deliberate about not bringing them into the spotlight, knowing she did not have the strength to protect them from public scrutiny.

She added that this decision extended to her lifestyle and how she managed her public image. Unlike many who frequently share their lives on social media, Ebi Bright noted that chose not to publicize every detail.

“For me, I stepped into the political space. But even as an actress, the character was constant. I always knew at every step of the way, what I was willing to pay for where I wanted to get to. So, I determined that my marriage and my family, my children, was paramount.

And that I did not have what it took to protect my family, if I thrust them into the public space. So, I kept my marriage private.

“I kept my children private. I was not all-over social media and immediately I changed my polish, I snapped a picture and I post. I didn’t do all of those things. It allowed me the space to grow. It allowed me the space to protect myself and my family from some of those fears. It protected me from some of the advances that might have been more offensive. So, I wasn’t all over the place because I knew who I was,” Ebi Bright stated.
