The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, has praised the smooth and unanimous confirmation of all 33 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) nominees in the region, describing it as a significant milestone achieved through effective collaboration and merit-based selections.

In what observers are calling an exceptional outcome, none of the nominees put forward by President John Dramani Mahama were rejected, with each receiving the necessary endorsements in a single round of voting.

Dr. Kevor attributed this success to the fruitful cooperation between the NDC regional leadership and Minority Members of Parliament (MPs), including those from opposition parties, highlighting a commitment to regional development over partisan interests.

“We were not petty in wondering about people who were favourable to the region, the minister, or the MP, but genuine people that we thought would be accepted by the people,” he said. “All the confirmed people were those that we shortlisted for the nomination, and the president also nominated from that list. We are grateful to the president for that.”

Out of the 33 constituencies in the Eastern Region, the NDC currently holds 8 seats, with one independent MP, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which forms the Minority in Parliament, occupies 24 seats. Despite the NPP’s regional dominance, the confirmation process saw rare bipartisan alignment, underscoring a shared focus on community and governance outcomes.

Dr. Kevor commended President Mahama for his responsive and inclusive leadership, stressing that all the nominees had earned their appointments based on merit and long-standing contributions to the party’s success.

“The one-touch confirmation of all the MMDCEs is a clear indication that all the nominees earned it on merit after contributing immensely to the successes of the party over the years,” he added.

The successful confirmations are expected to accelerate local governance initiatives and development projects in the Eastern Region, as the new MMDCEs begin their mandate with broad support.
