The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council on May 2, 2025, witnessed a significant milestone with the official introduction of Daasebre Mireku Afari II as the new Begorohene and Okyeman Benkumhene. The ceremony, held at the council’s quarters, was graced by a large gathering of chiefs, elders, and notable personalities from across the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.

This formal introduction brings clarity and direction following the absence of a substantive chief in Begoro for some time. The new leadership is expected to spearhead development and restore unity and progress within the town and beyond.

Daasebre Mireku Afari II, by virtue of his role as Begorohene, assumes the important title of Okyeman Benkumhene—making him the third most senior chief in the hierarchy of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council. His division, Begoro, stands alongside Akyem Gyase as one of the two traditional divisions under the council’s structure.

The Benkumhene plays a crucial role in the administration of the Akyem Abuakwa state, second in command only to the Krontihene and Omanhene, especially during the latter’s absence.

His Royal Majesty Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panni, the Paramount Chief of Akyem Abuakwa, gave his full endorsement to the new Begorohene, commending his loyalty and service to the traditional area.

“I welcome you as our new Begorohene and Okyeman Benkumhene. I am confident that you will continue to serve Akyem Abuakwa with diligence and dedication. Congratulations, and may the good people of Akyem Abuakwa support and guide you in your new role,” he stated.

In response, Daasebre Mireku Afari II expressed his gratitude to the Omanhene and the entire council, pledging to uphold the traditions and lead with humility and dedication.

The grand public outdooring of Daasebre Mireku Afari II will take place on May 10, 2025, at Oheneseho in Akyem Begoro. The event will offer the people of Begoro and the broader Okyeman traditional area an opportunity to officially welcome their new chief in a grand style.

He has called on all citizens of Begoro, both home and abroad, to attend and support this historic occasion to mark the beginning of a new chapter for the town.
