The Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has extended condolences to the family of the fourth-year Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) student who was recently murdered.

Speaking at the launch of ‘Heritage Month 2025’ at the Channel One premises in Accra on February 28, 2025, Dzifa Gomashie expressed concerns about the increase in reports of misbehaviour among the youth.

“I’ve been to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to be with the cadets who are commemorating the 28th February incident on their own. It was important for me to go there because, in recent times, our children, perhaps taking a cue from what is happening in our communities and Parliament, are misbehaving,” she stated.

She added, “And only yesterday, we received the sad news of a life being cut short because another child thought it was his place to do something that caused the death of this young lady in her final year.

“My heart goes out to her family, especially to her mother, and to all of us Ghanaians, that we learn to be more tolerant, more appreciative of each other, and what we bring together for the development of our country in that same spirit.”

    Background

The KNUST student was found unresponsive behind the central laboratory on campus in the early hours of February 27, 2025.

She was pronounced dead by medical authorities from the KNUST Hospital, who examined the body at the scene before it was conveyed to the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

A subsequent police examination of the body revealed marks of violence.

Meanwhile, Daniel Tuffuor, the main suspect in the gruesome murder case, has been apprehended by the Regional Police for interrogation.

His arrest follows a thorough review of the university’s CCTV footage.

According to a statement issued by the university authorities, “The suspect, identified as a fellow student residing in the same hostel as the deceased, was found in possession of the clothing worn during the crime, which has been retrieved as evidence.”
