Following Criss Waddle’s public criticism of the gospel group Alabaster Box on a rumored GHC 15 million court lawsuit involving rapper Medikal and musician Sarkodie, the Ghanaian music business has been a flurry of controversy. Existing tensions within the music world have been heightened by this event, especially with regard to the relationship between Medikal and Criss Waddle.

Criss Waddle’s AMG Business label has long been associated with Medikal, whose true name is Samuel Adu Frimpong. Medikal recently announced his departure from AMG Business, despite their tight partnership, citing disrespect from the label and its affiliates. An incident involving Sam Sarfo Jr., also known as Showboy, who allegedly assaulted AMG affiliate David Deuces, had an impact on this decision. Medikal said he was fed up with the label’s lack of accountability and that he could no longer keep quiet about the problems.

Criss Waddle’s prior remarks about his friendship with Medikal further compounded matters. A public argument between Waddle and Medikal was staged as a publicity gimmick to promote Waddle’s single “Take Me Back” starring Stonebwoy, he disclosed in a 2022 interview. Recent events, however, raise the possibility that underlying tensions continued after the fictitious altercation.

Criss Waddle has publicly responded to Medikal’s statements of gratitude, adding to the complication by implying that the rapper has demonstrated sufficient gratitude and ought to proceed. This stands in contrast to Medikal’s continuous recognition of Waddle’s contribution to his career, in which he has called him his godfather and mentor.

Since Alabaster Box has not issued any formal statements, it is unclear how the group is involved in the claimed GHC 15 million court action. Within the music world, the lack of openness has stoked conjecture and discussion.

The complex relationships and difficulties inside the Ghanaian music industry are highlighted as the issue develops. The public controversy surrounding Medikal and Criss Waddle serves as a reminder of how crucial it is for artists and their affiliates to communicate openly and be accountable.
