A suspected armed robber was shot and killed by Wenchi, Bono Region, police after a gunfight on the Wenchi-Wa Highway.

Early on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at approximately 3:40 a.m., four armed suspects allegedly started a gunfight with the police patrol squad.

When the police patrol team arrived on the site, the suspected robbers opened fire on the cops, according to an eyewitness who spoke to Graphic Online.

Three of the robbers fled into the bush, but the police returned fire and neutralized one of them.

An undisclosed sum of money, six BB cartridges, a locally made single-barrel rifle, and a student bag with two Itel cell phones and a power bank were all found by the police to be possibly stolen.

According to reports, the police patrol team was notified that armed robbers were assaulting commuters on a portion of the route close to the farming town of Awisa in the Wenchi Municipality.

The criminals had already robbed passengers on a Yutong bus and a Sprinter minibus by the time the police arrived.

To find the escaped suspects, the police have started a manhunt as they continue their investigations.
