- Aussie troops safe and accounted for
A major airbase in the Middle East where dozens of Australian Defence Force personnel are stationed has been reportedly hit by Iranian missile strikes.
Photos posted online over the weekend showed billowing smoke near the Al Minhad Airbase in Dubai, as tensions between Israel-US and Iran escalate.
A military source told The Nightly that the base received ‘multiple impacts’ from suspected ballistic weapons.
They added that were no injuries were recorded.
Defence Minister Richard Marles has confirmed that all Australian military personnel are safe and accounted for.
‘There are more than 100 Australian serving personnel in a number of countries across the region, but most of whom are in the United Emirates where we have had for many years an operational headquarters at Al Minhad outside of Dubai,’ he told parliament during Question Time on Monday.
“I can report to the house that all of those serving men and women are accounted for and right now are safe.’
The Al Minhad Air Base is the headquarters for Headquarters Middle East, a small team that has supported ADF missions and contingencies since 2003.
