The National DRIP Secretariat has taken decisive action against the Klottey-Korle and Accra Metropolitan Assemblies (AMA) for misusing District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment after persistent warnings against the misuse of the equipment.

National DRIP Coordinator Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye led the crackdown, impounding a backhoe and payloader used for collecting refuse in unauthorised areas.

On September 21, 2025, Edwin Nii Lantey Vandepuye encountered the assemblies using the equipment at Tudu and the 31st December Market around midnight and warned the operators to cease usage.

However, a follow-up inspection in the morning revealed that the assemblies continued to misuse the equipment at Kantamanto and UTC and consequently seized the keys to prevent further unauthorised use.

The National DRIP Coordinator emphasised the importance of adhering to regulations and guidelines governing equipment usage.

He warned other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) “against misusing DRIP equipment”, stressing that assemblies “without immediate need for the equipment should consider leasing it to needier assemblies.”

“A realignment of equipment allocation is planned to ensure assemblies with pressing road repair needs receive adequate resources, “he added.

He noted that the government is committed to ensuring DRIP equipment serves its intended purpose of improving Ghana’s road infrastructure. Similar incidents have been reported in Obuasi, where a DRIP machine was impounded for unauthorised use, highlighting the programme’s zero-tolerance policy on equipment misuse.
