Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum is a former Minister of Education
Former Eastern Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Prah, has rallied support for the former Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, describing him as the most competent and visionary leader to take the party forward.
He indicated that Dr Adutwum, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and other aspirants are all qualified to lead the NPP to victory in 2028.
However, he is rallying support for the former minister to become the presidential candidate for the NPP in 2028 and eventual president of the Republic of Ghana.
He appealed passionately to the NPP delegates to consider Dr Adutwum’s exceptional leadership record, transformative achievements, and global perspective as they weigh their options for the party’s future.
“The New Patriotic Party has reached a turning point. And what we need now is not another career politician, but a man of competence, character, and performance. That man is Yaw Osei Adutwum,” he declared
.
The former Communications Director emphasised that Dr Adutwum’s time at the Ministry of Education was marked by bold and practical reforms that impacted lives across the country.
Under his stewardship, the education sector experienced a renewed focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), with several modern STEM-focused senior high schools constructed nationwide.
“Let’s look at what he did in just a few years. He led the expansion of STEM education across the country. These schools are equipped with robotics, coding labs, and engineering workshops. It wasn’t politics—it was progress.
“He brought energy and focus to a ministry that had become predictable. He introduced STEM boarding schools in underserved communities and rolled out free robotics and coding programs—things never seen before in our public schools,” he noted.
According to Prah, Dr Adutwum’s leadership is grounded not only in experience but also in world-class education and international exposure that few Ghanaian politicians possess.
Before entering public service in Ghana, he founded and served as CEO of the New Designs Educational Group in California, USA—an institution that served thousands of students and employed hundreds of professionals.
“This is a man who built an education system in the US from the ground up. He wasn’t just teaching—he was creating jobs and shaping future leaders,” Prah emphasised.
Highlighting the former minister’s governance approach, he stressed that Dr Adutwum was not the kind of leader to be boxed into Accra offices. Instead, he was known for unannounced school visits to monitor real-time classroom performance.
Beyond policy, Dr Adutwum is recognised for his personal investments in education. According to Prah, he has single-handedly sponsored over 150 students from his Bosomtwe Constituency to pursue engineering and medicine across various universities in Ghana.
His expertise and credibility have earned him international recognition. He is currently the Chairman of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO and a member of the UN High-Level Advisory Group for Mission 4.7, which supports the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Education).
He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Capacity Building Centre at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and is the Patron of the Africa Curriculum Association (ACA).
He holds a PhD in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Southern California (USC), a Master’s degree in Educational Management from the University of La Verne, and a Teaching Diploma from Chapman University, California.
He is also an alumnus of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
As the New Patriotic Party begins to chart its path toward future elections, David Prah’s early endorsement highlights a growing movement within the party calling for transformational leadership.
With Dr Adutwum’s impeccable credentials, international respect, and grassroots dedication, his name is quickly emerging as one to watch.
