General Manager of Accra Great Olympics, Eric Alagidede, eulogized the late Minister of Defence, Dr. Omane Boamah, who lost his life in the tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

According to Eric Alagidede, Dr. Omane Boamah was part of the medical team that offered rescue services to victims of the May 9 Stadium disaster and was very passionate about football as a supporter of Asante Kotoko.

He also praised him for being a leader who always wanted to get his hands dirty, because such a trait is rare in African leaders.

“He had that leadership quality you will always look for and admire about him. He always wanted to get his hands dirty and not just sit in his office like most of his colleagues do. So, I learned a lot from him even though I didn’t really have a personal relationship with him. He was not your typical African leader.”

“Many people don’t know this, but Dr. Omane Boamah was part of the medical team that offered rescue services to victims of the May 9 Stadium disaster and was very passionate about football as a supporter of Asante Kotoko,” Eric Alagidede said on Sporty FM.

The crash of the Ghana Armed Forces’ Z9 helicopter claimed the lives of eight individuals, including top government officials and military personnel.

The victims include Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment; Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, Former Central Regional Minister; Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
