Cape Coast – The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, popularly known as Ragga, has donated a fresh set of building materials to the people of Dehia to commence the second phase of their community centre project.

The items, which include 50 bags of cement, 30 boards, 30 iron rods, a double-axle trip each of sand and stones, and two boxes of nails, were presented to the community on Sunday, February 22, 2026. The donation marks a significant step in completing a facility that residents have largely built with their own labour.

Speaking at a brief ceremony, Dr. Nyarku recalled the project’s origins. “Two years ago, I donated 100 bags of cement, two double-axle trips of sand, and two double-axle trips of stones to start the construction of this community centre,” he said. He noted that the initial contribution was intended to kick-start the first phase, but it was the community’s promise of self-help that gave him the most confidence. “I was deeply encouraged by the community’s steadfast resolve to provide the labour for the construction. True to their word, the first phase has been completed,” he stated.

The MP pledged his commitment to seeing the project through to its timely completion and urged the residents to maintain their momentum. “I thank you for the remarkable community support shown so far, and I encourage you to continue,” he added.

In the absence of the chief, the items were received on behalf of the community by the local NDC party branch chairman, who also serves as the ward coordinator. He assured the MP that the materials would be used judiciously to achieve the shared vision for the centre.

Following the donation, Dr. Nyarku inspected the construction site of a new gari processing factory within the community. He supported the ongoing work with an undisclosed financial contribution and took the opportunity to motivate the workers on site, urging them to ensure the project’s timely completion. He emphasised that such small-scale industries are vital for boosting local economic activity and creating employment within the enclave.

With the second phase now underway, residents of Dehia have expressed their elation at their MP’s continued responsiveness to their needs. The gesture further underscores Dr. Nyarku’s commitment to fostering community-led development and togetherness.
