On November 16, 2024, Dr Ekua Amoakoh, a rising yet formidable voice in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), spearheaded the healthcare workers for Bawumia and organised a free health screening in the Moshie Zongo community of the Manhyia North Constituency in the Ashanti Region — the very constituency where she grew up, spending her early years at Buokrom Estate until her late teens.
Driven by her commitment and passion for accessible healthcare regardless of tax bracket or geographic location, decentralising healthcare has been a recurring theme in Dr Amoako’s messaging as the NPP’s Health Manifesto Spokesperson; by this action, she is indeed putting her money where her mouth is.
By 6 a.m., people had already gathered at the Anyaano M/A Primary School Park, eager to receive medical attention. Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, along with her colleagues, Dr. Barima Fredua-Anto and Dr. Kofi Dekyi, quickly put their hard-earned knowledge and skills to work for the well-being of the community; they saw over 500 residents, focusing on chronic illnesses, such as hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory conditions as well as consultations for various health concerns they might have had.
The event also featured the National Health Insurance Authority, which onboarded and renewed memberships for more than 500 individuals at no cost at all. The community was overjoyed and deeply grateful for the opportunity to access free, hassle-free healthcare. The added benefit of being enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme meant they could continue receiving treatment with ease and at zero cost. Members of the community also benefited from free medication to complement the health screening.
As the day unfolded, the energy in the park was palpable, with music playing, people chanting the NPP and Vice President Bawumia’s praises, horns blaring and the young people dancing in perfect sync adorned in the NPP party regalia. It was truly a delightful and unforgettable experience for all involved.
The people were well nourished and refreshed to top it all off. This initiative was more than just a symbol of hope; it offered a glimpse into a future under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership—one characterised by ease and accessibility to the essentials that matter most to the people.
Dr. Ekua Amoakoh’s healthcare initiative in Manhyia North further demonstrated the transformative power of grassroots leadership and community-focused action by addressing immediate medical needs and facilitating long-term healthcare accessibility through National Health Insurance enrollments; she demonstrated a practical and empathetic approach to decentralising healthcare.
Her connection to the community and professional dedication made the event more impactful, promoting trust and building camaraderie. This initiative not only brought vital healthcare services to an underserved population but also energised the entire community with hope, proving that Bawumia’s team truly means business—and “It IS POSSIBLE.”
