The Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) posited unambiguously that the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, and a leading figure of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bryan Acheampong, cannot lead the country as President.

They contend that for Mr. Acheampong’s name to be floated as a potential flagbearer of the NPP is a telling indication that the party has run out of competent men and women to lead it, emphasizing that if he represents the best the NPP has to offer, then Ghanaian democracy is in trouble.

According to a press release issued and signed by the Gallant Cadres, on Tuesday, May 28, 2025, they aver that their position is based not on partisan considerations but on a thorough assessment of Mr. Acheampong’s public service record, utterances, and priorities; and they have concluded that he is not fit to lead Ghana as president.

“Our position is grounded not on partisan sentiment, but on a critical assessment of your record, your utterances, and your demonstrated priorities as a public servant. Ghanaians deserve leaders who embody integrity, selflessness, and a commitment to national development, not personal gain”, the release stressed.

In explaining why Bryan Acheampong is not fit to lead Ghana, they criticised his actions when he expressed interest in acquiring state-owned hotels, an act that seems to frown upon selfless leadership, a critical ingredient in national leadership. They underscored, “The attempt to privatize national assets for personal profit reeks of self-interest, not statesmanship. Leadership is not about enriching oneself by acquiring public assets; it is about serving the people with honesty and transparency”.

2028 NPP Flagbearership Race – Bryan Acheampong A Disastrous Candidate, Bawumia The Best Candidate For 2028 Ticket

The Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), wish to send a clear and unambiguous message to Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and a leading figure of the New Patriotic Party (NPP): You can never become the President of the Republic of Ghana. Our position is grounded not on partisan sentiment, but on a critical assessment of your record, your utterances, and your demonstrated priorities as a public servant. Ghanaians deserve leaders who embody integrity, selflessness, and a commitment to national development—not personal gain.

First and foremost, it is on public record that you expressed interest in acquiring state-owned hotels. This move raised eyebrows across the political spectrum, and rightly so. The attempt to privatize national assets for personal profit reeks of self-interest, not statesmanship. Leadership is not about enriching oneself through acquiring public assets; it is about serving the people with honesty and transparency.

Secondly, your infamous declaration that the NPP would not hand over power to the NDC “today or tomorrow,” even if we won the election, was not only reckless—it was dangerous. Such comments hit the very heart of our democracy and portrays you as anathema for the highest office of the land. Ghanaians have fought hard for our democratic freedoms, and no one, no matter their position or influence, has the right to undermine that sacred process. Your words betrayed a mindset of authoritarianism and contempt for the will of the people.

Thirdly, your time at the Ministry of Agriculture left much to be desired. Ghana’s agricultural sector is the lifeblood of our economy and the backbone of rural livelihoods. Under your leadership, the sector did not experience the transformational change it desperately needed. Instead, farmers were left grappling with high costs of implements, poor planning, and policy inconsistencies. What legacy did you leave behind for the average farmer?

The fact that your name is even floated as a potential flagbearer of the NPP is a telling indication that the party has run out of competent men and women to lead it. If you represent the best the NPP has to offer, then Ghanaian democracy is in trouble.

So, we ask you directly: What qualities do you possess that make you think you are fit to lead this nation? Where is your track record of uniting Ghanaians, fighting for the common man, or upholding the principles of good governance?

Bryan Acheampong, your ambition may be loud, but the people of Ghana are not deaf. We see through the posturing. We see the self-promotion. We see the hypocrisy. And we reject it outright.

We the gallant cadres of the NDC stand vigilant. We stand for democracy, accountability, and truth. And we will not stand by while individuals like you attempt to manipulate your way into power at the expense of the Ghanaian people.

    Ghana deserves better.

    Signed,

The Gallant Cadres of the. National Democratic Congress.
