Former Vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has extended financial support to the wife and family of late Ghanaian boxer, Ernest “Bahubali” Akushey during his burial ceremony held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Chorkor Tea Garden in Accra.

The former Greater Accra Regional Minister donated on behalf of Dr Bawumia, as family members, colleagues from the boxing fraternity and residents of Chorkor gathered to bid farewell to the popular boxer.

As part of the gesture, Glover presented an undisclosed sum of money to Bahubali’s widow and immediate family to support them in the difficult period following the boxer’s death.

In addition, he announced a seed amount of GH¢10,000 endowment fund for Bahubali’s son, a move aimed at securing the child’s future and honouring the late boxer’s legacy.

The announcement was met with applause from mourners, many of whom praised the gesture as timely and compassionate.

Bahubali, who was widely admired for his fearless style in the ring, passed away on September 23, 2025, after suffering complications after a bout.

His funeral had initially been scheduled for December 6, 2025, but was postponed due to unforeseen challenges.

Before the burial, the late boxer was laid in state, dressed in his professional boxing attire, symbolising his lifelong dedication to the sport.
