Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has cautioned the Ghana national football team against underestimating any opponent at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, especially Panama as a potential danger in their group.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England national football team and Croatia national football team for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Sports, Kingston stressed that familiarity with traditional football powers should not lead to complacency, warning that lesser-known teams could prove more difficult.

“We know our opponents very well, apart from Panama. A lot of people are writing them off, but for me that is the most important opponent,” Kingston said.

He explained that players are already familiar with England and Croatia through regular European competitions, while Panama remains relatively unknown.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

Ghana, who exited at the group stage in both 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2022 FIFA World Cup, will be aiming for a stronger showing in North America.
