The Acting Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), Dr Mark-Oliver Kevor, has urged graduates of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) not to undermine their potentials as they step into the next phase of life.

Speaking at the first session of the university’s 17th congregation on Friday, September 26, Dr Kevor encouraged the 1,863 graduating students to embrace integrity and value mentorship in their professional and personal journeys.

“Seriously, don’t underestimate your potentials and I am very happy some of you have already started developing workable applications even while you are still in school,” he said.

The ceremony saw 1,640 students graduate from the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Studies, and 223 from the Law School.

The Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, announced that across the four sessions of the 17th congregation, the university is expected to graduate 5,664 students.

This number comprises 939 postgraduates, 3,825 undergraduates and 900 diploma students.

He praised the graduating class for their resilience, noting that their ability to adapt to online learning, meet tight deadlines and persevere through challenges demonstrates the true spirit of innovation.

“This is not only a celebration of academic achievements, but also a testimony to the power of perseverance, innovation and leadership potential that lies within each of you,” he added.

Dr Harry Lawson Kwaku Agbanu, Chairman of the UPSA Governing Council, also urged the graduates to be worthy ambassadors of the university.

The congregation also celebrated academic excellence, with Rebecca Oppong of the Department of Communication Studies emerging as the Best Graduating Student for the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Studies.

She was named Valedictorian for the first session, with a Final Cumulative Grade Point Average (FCGPA) of 3.89.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that UPSA enrolled 12,585 new students at the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, bringing the total student population to 27,279.

This comprises 2,826 diploma students, 21,617 undergraduates, 2,260 postgraduates and 576 professional students.
